Two cargo ships in the Strait of Hormuz were fired at this morning, only hours after Donald Trump extended a fragile ceasefire.

A cargo ship was fired upon about eight nautical miles west of Iran, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO),a British navy shipping monitor, said.

In an update, the military said the crew was safe and the ship was not damaged by the strikes amid ‘high activity’ in the waterway.

It did not say who was behind the attack.

Another container ship suffered ‘heavy damage’ after being shot at by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, the regime’s military,at about 4.55am.

Trump threatens to ‘blow up rest of Iran’

It comes only hours after Trump gave Iran an ultimatum – again – over the Strait. The US President said on Truth Social: ‘People approached me four days ago, saying,“Sir,Iran wants to open up the Strait, immediately.”‘But if we do that, there can never be a Deal with Iran, unless we blow up the rest of their Country, their leaders included!’Trump added in a second post that Iran is suffering financially as the Hormuz, which runs along its southern coast, makes it $500 million a day.‘Military and Police complaining that they are not getting paid. SOS!!!’ he said.

US-Iran war pushes UK inflation higher

The Strait of Hormuz is more than 3,300 miles away from the UK – yet whether or not it’s open is having massive impacts on the UK.

A quarter of the world’s oil and 20% of the world’s liquefied natural gas once passed through the Strait. It being blocked amid the war is why people are feeling so much pain at the pump.

This is also why inflation in the UK has risen to 3.3% in March from 3% in February. Inflation means your pound coin today doesn’t go as far as it did yesterday.

Office for National Statistics chief economist Grant Fitzner blamed the increase on fuel prices hitting a three-year high.

He said: ‘Air fares were another upward driver this month, alongside rising food prices.

‘The only significant offset came from clothing costs, where prices rose by less than this time last year.’
